Hi I’m Coach Collin Castellaw with Shot Mechanics.com and this is the Damian Lillard Contact Finish. So one thing that makes Damian Lillard so good is his ability to draw contact on bigs in the paint and then still finish. This allows him to finish the play, get extra free throw opportunities and put the opposing teams big in foul trouble. So let’s see how he does it. So this play begins as Damian Lillard penetrates to the middle of the floor and he becomes mismatched with a big. Damian uses a pro hop to gather his momentum as he is getting ready to score. Notice that his legs are already locked and loaded and ready to explode as soon as he hits the ground. As he jumps, he jumps into his defender using his off arm to protect. This keeps the big man from exploding into their jump, draws a foul, and protects the ball. And because of the contact the defender can’t block the ball and now Damian only has to find the rim and finish. So remember just create that contact before the big can leave their feet and you should get a great look out of it.
